High-tide warning issued for Klang until Nov 11

SHAH ALAM: The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has urged residents in low-lying and riverbank areas to prepare for a five-day high-tide phenomenon starting tomorrow.

Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain advised residents to monitor official weather advisories and avoid high-risk zones during heavy rain and high tides.

“Important documents and valuables should be kept in a safe place, vehicles moved to higher ground, and families should ensure they have sufficient emergency supplies,” he said in a statement today.

According to the Klang District Disaster Management Committee, the high-tide phenomenon will run until Nov 11, with water levels at the Port Klang station forecast to hit 5.2m.

The peak tide is expected at 5.02am on Sunday, placing it in the warning category.

Under Port Klang water level guidelines, readings between 5m and 5.3m fall within the warning category, while levels from 5.4m to 5.5m enter the danger category.

The committee said thunderstorms are expected in several areas on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with rain forecast in parts of the district at night.

Abd Hamid said MBDK was prepared for potential floods and high tides through coordinated measures with relevant agencies.

He said the council was focusing on several flood-prone spots, including the Bukit Raja intersection, Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, Taman Melawis, Kampung Bukit Kapar, Taman Meru Indah, Taman Seri Kerayong, Taman Daya Maju, and Jalan Haji Salleh in Pekan Meru.

“Priority is being given to upgrading drainage systems, installing flap gates, repairing discharge pipes and maintaining retention ponds.

“The MBDK Rapid Response Squad and relevant departments remain on high alert to ensure a swift response to any complaints or disaster-related incidents,” he said.

Abd Hamid said the council received 83 disaster-related complaints over two days starting Wednesday, with 62 resolved, 16 under action, and five involving special assistance.

He said residents whose vehicles or properties were damaged by fallen trees within MBDK’s jurisdiction could submit compensation claims to the council.

“A police report must first be lodged before any claim is submitted for review and further action,” he said. — BERNAMA
