Lianson adds Malaysia’s first DP2 heavy-lift vessel

KUALA LUMPUR: Lianson Fleet Group Bhd (LFG) is expanding its offshore marine capabilities with the acquisition of a heavy-lift vessel capable of handling up to 4,000 tonnes.

This positions the group to pursue larger and more complex offshore projects across Southeast Asia.

Lianson said its wholly-owned Icon Samudera (L) Inc acquired the vessel, which will be renamed LFG Hercules.

Upon completion of its Malaysian registration, the vessel will become the country’s first Malaysian-flagged Dynamic Positioning Class 2 (DP2) offshore heavy-lift vessel.

Equipped with a main crane with a lifting capacity of 4,000 tonnes and DP2 technology, the vessel will strengthen Lianson’s ability to undertake specialised offshore operations.

The acquisition also opens opportunities in offshore decommissioning, oil and gas infrastructure and renewable energy projects as demand grows for specialised marine services across the region.

Managing director Lim Chern Wooi said the acquisition marked an important step in developing the group into a broader regional maritime player.

He said the vessel would complement Lianson’s existing fleet ownership, chartering and offshore support operations, allowing it to pursue larger projects across the offshore energy lifecycle.

Lim added that ageing offshore infrastructure and the gradual development of renewable energy projects presented longer-term growth opportunities.
