Malaysia stands in solidarity with Poland after shooting tragedy, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of Poland and extends its condolences to the families of those killed in a shooting in Kraków, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar also expressed sadness over the tragedy, which claimed six lives and left several others injured, while wishing those affected a swift recovery.

He said he was deeply concerned by reports suggesting that the attacker was influenced by far-right extremism.

“This tragedy underscores the need to confront terrorism in all its forms, including the growing threat of violent right-wing extremism. No ideology can justify the murder of innocent people,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to working closely with the international community to counter extremism and uphold peace and human dignity.

In the incident on Saturday afternoon, a gunman, reportedly inspired by far-right ideology killed six people, including a Briton, and injured many others in Kraków, Poland’s second-largest city.

According to international media reports citing police, the attacker drove into Main Market Square before opening fire at people in the area.
