MELAKA: Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters must walk the talk on the coalition’s pact with Perikatan Nasional (PN) by directly backing the Pas candidate in Bukit Katil, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
The former Umno Youth chief said cross-coalition backing is mandatory under their electoral understanding, stressing that discipline at the ballot box must be demonstrated where seats have been conceded to partner parties.
“Send word to our friends, for example in Bukit Katil, because there is a Pas candidate there and we did not field a BN candidate,” Khairy said during a campaign stop in Duyong.
“Over there, it is mandatory for Umno and BN voters to give their support to PN-Pas.”
Equally, Khairy said the state seat of Duyong, where Pas did not contest, was the mirror scenario where the Islamist party’s machinery and supporters must deliver their votes for BN’s candidate Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem.
“In areas where Pas is not contesting, such as in Duyong, on behalf of BN and Umno, I am asking for help in the spirit of cooperation and consensus of the Malay-Muslim community, to support our candidate number two, Datuk Helmi, and other candidates from Umno and Barisan Nasional.”
Khairy added that ground readings across Melaka show genuine joint coordination taking place down to voting district centers and branches, signaling that ground-level machinery is aligned with the seat-sharing strategy.
