MHA top brass must answer for inaccurate information on TuJu, says Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Highway Authority’s (MHA) top brass must be held accountable if inaccurate information was provided concerning the TuJu navigation application, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said senior management must take responsibility for any inaccurate advice or information presented during official discussions.

“If inaccurate information was presented, the senior management of the organisation concerned must be held accountable.

“They must be made to account for whatever advice or information that they have given,” he told reporters after officiating the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) Foundation’s Health Screening Programme for Journalists here today.

Fahmi was responding to questions about the controversy surrounding TuJu and the Waze navigation application.

MHA chairperson Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad previously clarified that the TuJu navigation application was developed primarily to improve services along tolled highways, rather than to compete directly with Waze.

His explanation comes amid questions over the government’s promotion of TuJu as an alternative to Waze, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for Malaysians to switch to the locally developed application over national security concerns.

Asked whether the government would advise MHA on TuJu’s functions, Fahmi said he had not attended the meeting in question and was unaware of what had been discussed.

“I did not attend that meeting. I do not have information about what was discussed,” he said.

Earlier, the government announced the ban on Waze among civil servants, citing concerns over the potential misuse of government information and users’ personal data by the Israeli regime.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the decision took into account Waze Mobile Ltd’s status as a data controller incorporated and operating under Israeli law.

Waze has denied allegations that it collects sensitive government information or allows third parties to exploit users’ personal data.

The company maintained that it operates under strict privacy policies and complies with applicable data protection standards.
