Anwar joins Deepavali video in Rajinikanth-inspired appearance

KUALA LUMPUR: A Deepavali video featuring Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and content creator Devaraj David has been widely shared on social media.

Anwar appears in the clip, titled “Bila Mak Suruh Balik Kampung” (When Mother Asks You to Return Home), urging a young man to return to his hometown for Deepavali.

In the video, Devaraj plays a young man who gives various excuses over the phone to avoid going home for the festival, including family nagging and car problems.

Anwar then steps out of a vehicle in traditional attire and puts on dark sunglasses, in a nod to Indian cinema superstar Rajinikanth.

Speaking to the young man, Anwar reminds him to respect his mother and return home for the Festival of Lights.

After fixing the car, Anwar joins Devaraj on the journey.

The two are later seen sharing murukku in the car before wishing Malaysians “Deepavali Nalvazhthukkal” (Happy Deepavali).

Social media users praised Anwar for taking part in the video and its message about family ties during the festive season.

Anwar, who has a keen interest in music and literature, is also known for his ability to recite popular Hindi songs.
